USA:
Most items ship from our warehouse in Milwaukee, WI, but if you are ordering a heavy or oversized item, we often have the manufacturer ship it directly to you to reduce shipping costs and save you money. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on shipment weight and destination. Eartheasy can ship to residential and commercial addresses in all 50 US States, but unfortunately oversized products do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii. If you are in Alaska or Hawaii and have your heart set on an oversized item, give us a call and we’ll try our best to help you with a freight quote. Unfortunately we do not ship to U.S. Territories or U.S. military installations at this time, but we are working on making these options available soon.

Canada:
Please check product pages to see whether your product is eligible for shipping to Canada, as unfortunately there are some products we cannot ship across the border. Canadian orders ship weekly on Thursdays via Purolator International and shipping costs include duties and taxes. Unfortunately, expedited shipping to Canada is not available at this time.

International:
Unfortunately we cannot ship internationally, including Mexico or freight forwarders. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Processing Time & Shipping Charges:
The "Lead Time" on a product specifies the number of business days for your item to be prepared by our warehouse. The Lead Time does not include the date the order is placed. This also applies for all shipping methods, including express methods. If your item is shipping freight, you will receive a call to schedule the delivery with your driver. If your shopping cart has multiple items, a shipping charge may apply even if some items are listed as "Free Shipping", as charges apply to items rather than total cart quantities.

Durable Cedar

Crafted from kiln-dried, Western red cedar, these raised beds feature fragrant wood with a uniform texture and robust natural oils, providing effective protection against moisture and decay. Western red cedar surpasses the longevity of most lumber typically available in stores.

To enhance the lifespan of your raised beds, we recommend applying a stain or sealant. Among the options is our Eco Wood Treatment. This treatment works by protecting wood fibers against water and fungal decay. It not only enhances the wood’s durability, but also imparts an aged, silvery patina.

Innovative Design

Our simple kit design accommodates the natural shrinkage and swelling of wood, enhancing strength and durability in wet and dry environments. Unlike screws and nails that tend to loosen as wood ages, our raised beds feature rust-proof, stainless steel rods securely placed through the ends of each board. This ensures the raised bed remains intact and resilient yet can be easily disassembled if necessary.

Setup & Assembly

Assemble our raised beds in minutes without tools. Simply level the ground, line up the boards, and insert corner pins to create a durable bed for all your garden plants. Corner pins will match the height of the ordered bed, allowing you to locate our beds on soft or hard surfaces.

To ensure best performance, we recommend placing your boards in a garage, shed or covered area for 3-5 days before assembling. This step helps prevent issues like cupping, warping, and gapping by allowing your bed to acclimate to its new home.

Easily build a cloche over these raised garden beds. You can leave the corner pins slightly protruding and then slide some thin PVC pipe over them, bending the pipe in a hoop to the other side of the bed. Then drape clear plastic over the pipe and affix with zip-ties. Now your garden is greenhouse ready!

Premium Raised Beds with Trim Pack

Looking for a premium version of our classic cedar raised garden beds? We offer these classic beds with atrim packfor an attractive finish and increased durability, especially for taller raised beds. The trim covers the lap joints and locks the boards in place to prevent separation on uneven ground. The trim pack consists of pre-drilled 3-1/4 inch wide top rails and corner moldings that attach to the raised bed with included screws.

The trim packs allow us to offer a larger variety of sizes, including taller 27.5" and 33" heights. The premium raised beds with trim packs extend the regular 3 year warranty to 5 years.

FAQs

How long will cedar last for a raised garden bed? ›

Most raised beds are constructed from lumber. Pine and other framing lumber will last about 4 to 5 years, while more expensive cedar will hang together for 8 to 10 years. Don't use redwood, which is an endangered species.

Is cedar good for raised garden bed? ›

Cedar lumber is often used in constructing raised beds. It offers a natural resistance to rot and insects. Eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) is very rot resistant and will last for years even when in contact with soil. However, the wood is very dense and can be hard to work with.

What wood should not be used in a raised garden bed? ›

Avoid using older types of wood treatments such as CCA, creosote, and Penta-treated lumber. Research from Oregon State University showed that pressure-treated lumber does increase soil copper concentrations by a minor amount, but only within 1 inch of the raised-bed edge.

Do you have to seal cedar garden beds? ›

Cedar is an excellent choice for raised garden beds because it is naturally resistant to rot, doesn't require sealing but can be sealed, and keeps some pests away.

What is the longest lasting wood for raised garden beds? ›

The type of wood used for raised beds makes a difference. Redwood and cedar are more expensive but resist decay, so they last longer. Pine and fir will break down more quickly but are available at a fraction of the cost.

What is the longest lasting type of raised bed? ›

That depends on what they're made of. Beds built with western red cedar can last 10 to 15 years; galvanized steel, 20 years; masonry or plastic composites, indefinitely.

How thick should cedar be for raised bed? ›

Aim to buy the thickest pieces of wood you can afford to build the sides of your raised beds. I always budget for 2"-thick boards. Thinner boards are a fraction of the cost, but a raised bed made of flimsier wood will bow and degrade much faster.

Do cedar raised beds need to be lined? ›

I recommend at the very least coating your lumber in linseed oil or beeswax to preserve them for the long haul. Some gardeners use lining between the interior of their raised bed and soil to protect the wood. Even with the lining, you'll get seepage of water that will penetrate that wood and linger.

What is the cheapest wood for raised garden beds? ›

What kind of wood should be used for raised beds? Cedar wood is the most affordable and is a naturally rot-resistant wood due to natural oils.

How deep should a raised garden bed be? ›

Vegetable Beds: On the other hand, when it comes to vegetable beds, the bed must be approximately 12 to 18 inches deep to ensure adequate depth for the roots of your plants. This is especially important if your raised bed is placed on cement or the patio, which will inhibit roots from growing deeper into the ground.

What not to fill a raised garden bed with? ›

I've seen suggestions online to add plastic bottles or trash bags as filler to the bottom of raised beds to save money on soil. This not only defeats the purpose of installing a raised bed in order to give your plants' roots all the growing room they need, it also can negatively impact the drainage of your raised beds.

Are cedar planters safe? ›

The safest wood to use for vegetable container gardens is cedar. It resists rot and lasts a long time, but it is pricey. You can safely use other kinds of untreated hardwood to build raised beds, but your project will rot and warp in a few years, depending on the wood.

Is it OK to paint raised garden beds? ›

Ideally, you should paint the raised bed before you fill it with foil and soil. However, if you don't like the look of your existing raised bed and want to finish it, you can paint it later. The important thing is that the wood is dry and the weather forecast does not call for rain.

Is cedar mulch safe for vegetable gardens? ›

Although wood mulches such as chipped hard and softwoods, cedar, cypress and pine bark aren't used much in vegetable gardens, they can be used around perennial vegetables such as asparagus or rhubarb. Cedar and cypress will last the longest because they are resistant to decay.

Will cedar last as long as pressure treated? ›

Cedar deteriorates quicker than treated wood, even with the added maintenance. As such it's not always the best choice. Cedar typically does not last as long as treated wood, lasting around 18 - 21 years with regular maintenance while treated wood lasts 20 - 23 years.

Is cedar better than pine for raised beds? ›

Cedar is often considered the golden standard for building raised beds, and it's my favorite option. It's naturally resistant to rot and pests thanks to its natural tannins. (Pine, by the way, has a lower level of these tannins, so it's not naturally protected from rot and pests.)

How long will untreated cedar last in the ground? ›

Untreated wood can last anywhere from a few months to several years, depending on different factors such as the type of wood, the climate, and the level of exposure to the elements. For example, cedar and redwood are naturally resistant to decay and can last up to 20 years or more.

How long does untreated cedar last outside? ›

Cedar wood may last over 20 years when used in outdoor structures, such as decks, pergolas, gazebos, or furniture. It can last between 15 and 20 years when used for constructing a fence or support posts.
