How to Create a Deviled Egg Bar

Gosh, this is super easy and fun to assemble. For our last deviled egg bar gathering, everyone had such a blast assembling their own deviled eggs and with all the different types of toppings, each bite is unique and delicious. We like to go beyond the norm and give inspiration to different toppings that cover flavors from around the world and of course, we can’t forget the traditional favorites. But it’s all about inspiration and showing how each bite can be reminiscent of a past trip, memory and moment.

Some of our favorite deviled egg themes and inspirations for your deviled egg bar. We have so many but here are what we had during our photo shoot. The possibilities are endless!

  • Prepare the deviled eggs without the toppings. Place filled eggs on a big platter.
  • Lay out all your ingredients and toppings in smaller bowls.
  • Provide your guests with small plates and let them customize each deviled with their choice of toppings and sauces.

Different Deviled Egg Ingredients

Deviled eggs should never be boring! We’ve had so many fun flavor inspirations for the toppings. Here’s a few of our favorite themes from around the world.

Japanese Deviled Eggs

We love all the avory flavors of Japanese inspired toppings. You could have a variety of furikake seasonings, fragrant bonito flakes, yuzu kosho, and zingy picked ginger. The flavors are absolutely outstanding and reminds us of our past eating trips through Japan and Tsukijji fish market.

California coastal fresh deviled eggs

The plentiful seasonal produce of California are great inspirations for toppings. hink ripe sweet heirloom cherry tomato, swipe of fresh basil pesto and a sliver of crispy fried garlic, all flecked wth fresh cracked black pepper and flaky sea salt. Amazing!

Ham and pink pepper corn deviled eggs

Salty chunks of smoked ham paired with the zippy spice of crushed pink peppercorns is fabulous. Don’t forget the smoked sea salt, some flecks of fresh thyme and you have a unique combination that everyone will drool over.

Indian flavors on deviled eggs

A little swipe of sweet mango chutney and paprika is a powerful bite of dreamy Indian flavors. And to make it more versatile, try a deviled egg with some curry powder and cayenne. The rich spices are packed with an unforgettable punch.

Vietnamese inspired deviled eggs

A “banh mi” deviled egg? Yes, it works! A small schmear of pâté, drizzle of soy sauce or maggi, minced cilantro, a thin sliver of chili pepper all topped with some pickled carrots and daikon will blow your mind. Try it. Trust us.

Spicy Deviled Eggs

A drizzle of our homemade chili garlic onion crunch oil is amazing on deviled eggs. It’s the most popular go-to topping for our devield egg bars. Here’s the recipe for our homemade chili garlic oil crunch recipe.

Spicy Fool with Bacon: We like to call it this because we have family members who can tolerate a ton of spicy heat and we call them fools. Maybe because we’re jealous because we can’t eat too spicy of food or maybe it’s because they’re suffering the post-spice pains afterwards. What ever your tolerance is, there’s always someone at the party to loves spicy. And bacon! So top the egg with slivers of bacon, jalapeño, habanero, and/or a swipe ofyour favorite hot sauce like Sriracha or anything that tips the spicy scale to over the top.

Timeless: The classics such as smoke salmon, dill, chives and other variations are always popular, appreciated and devoured super quick. Again, the possibilities are endless so have the time of your lives with your friends and family to eat up as many delicious custom made deviled eggs as possible. And most importantly, have fun! hugs, diane and todd

I love deviled eggs and what a great brunch idea! My secret ingredient for the filling is a little bit of anchovy paste. Sounds gross but it’s really good.

FAQs

Is it better to make deviled eggs day before or day of? ›

Prep deviled eggs too far in advance, and you'll have dried out filling and stinky boiled egg whites. For the best results, prep your deviled eggs up to two days in advance and keep the egg whites and filling separate until you're ready to serve. This prepping method also applies if you're not even leaving the house.

What happens if you put too much mayo in deviled eggs? ›

If you add too much mayo, it may overpower the filling and make it runny. For a dozen eggs, ½ cup mayonnaise will make a smooth, creamy filling that can sit up high when spooned into the egg. One way to ensure you get a good yolk-to-mayo ratio is to cook a few extra eggs.

How do you serve deviled eggs at a party? ›

You can use any glass or metal pan or large ceramic platter. Line the bottom with large lettuce leaves and place the deviled eggs on top. The glass or metal pan might work better, because you can then cover them with a tight sheet of plastic wrap without the plastic wrap touching the eggs.

What goes on a deviled egg tray? ›

Well, deviled egg trays aren't just for deviled (or soft-boiled) eggs. The little oval depressions are perfect for holding any small, roundish finger foods that could benefit from some stability or separation on the platter. I've used mine for stuffed dates, stuffed mushrooms, and meatballs.

Is it better to make deviled eggs when they are warm or cold? ›

Cooling between cooking and assembling deviled eggs is a crucial step. When the eggs are still warm, the whites are more delicate, making them easier to tear or rip, while yolks that are too warm can cause the mayonnaise or yogurt to separate.

How many deviled eggs per person? ›

How many deviled eggs do you need per person? Plan 2 to 3 deviled eggs per person for your get-together. A dozen eggs will make 24 deviled eggs, and that will be enough for 8 to 12 people. If you have leftovers you can store them in the fridge for 24 hours and snack on them the next day.

How long can deviled eggs sit out at a party? ›

Deviled eggs can stay out at room temperature for 2 hours, and that period applies to preparation, serving, and leftovers. After 2 hours, perishable foods—like deviled eggs—enter what the USDA calls the "Danger Zone," in which conditions are more favorable for harmful bacteria to form.

What is deviled egg filling made of? ›

Arrange the egg white halves on a serving platter. Make the filling: Using a fork, mash up the yolks and add mustard, mayonnaise, onion, tabasco, and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Add more mayonnaise as necessary to get to the creamy consistency you want.

What is the inside of a deviled egg called? ›

Deviled eggs, also known as stuffed eggs, curried eggs or dressed eggs, are hard-boiled eggs that have been peeled, cut in half, and filled with the yolk, mixed with other ingredients such as mayonnaise and mustard.

What is the best way to store deviled eggs overnight? ›

When it's time to serve, snip off a corner of the bag and pipe the filling into the egg whites. If you'd rather fully assemble the deviled eggs in advance, be sure to store them in a single layer in an airtight container, and hold off on garnishing them until right before serving time.

Can I peel hard-boiled eggs the night before? ›

It depends on whether they're peeled or unpeeled. With their shells on, hard-boiled eggs will stay good in the fridge for up to a week. Once you peel them, though, their shelf-life decreases to about three days (at the most).

Is it better to use old or new eggs for deviled eggs? ›

Fresh eggs, with their smaller air sacs, are more likely to have a smooth ovoid shape when peeled, which looks more appealing in applications as deviled eggs. OFF-CENTER YOLK: Fresher eggs are more likely (though not guaranteed) to have centered yolks, again leading to more attractive deviled eggs.

Can you peel hard-boiled eggs the day before you make deviled eggs? ›

However, there are ways to make day-of deviled eggs easier than ever. Follow these tips and you'll be all set for making these tasty eggs come Easter morning. My main make-ahead trick is to boil and peel the eggs the day before and refrigerate overnight.
