Megan's Granola Recipe , The Best Granola EVER! (1)

I never pictured myself making granola. But when you have a son that loves granola, you make granola. When I told my son I was going to make it, he went to the store and bought everything he wanted in it. Seeds, nuts, wheat germ, dried fruit, honey, maple syrup…and the list went on.

Megan's Granola Recipe , The Best Granola EVER! (2)

I was lucky enough to find Megan’s Granola Recipe, The Best Granola EVER! on Allrecipes, it had every ingredient in it that he brought home.. Not to mention 634 comments that sung the praises of how this granola recipe was better than anything you could by at the store…anywhere. Ok!, we have ourselves a recipe. I made this on Saturday afternoon while my son and our neighbour were working in the yard. While it was baking my house filled up with this amazing aroma that….I can’t believe I’m saying this, smelled better than any cake I’ve ever made. My son walked into the house, walked back out and told our neighbour….you wouldn’t believe the aroma in my house right now! The only ingredient I added to the recipe was about a tablespoon of orange zest. Before I cut an orange, I grate the zest from it and freeze it for later use. It really comes in handy. This recipe made 5 quart jars of granola, there’s only one left. This recipe can be made to the taste of your family by using the nuts and dried fruit of your choice and the zest of a lemon or an orange . My son eats this for breakfast, and he’ll walk around with a jar eating it as a snack. I’m sure you’ll find your own way of enjoying it…using it as a topping for yogurt or ice cream sounds good to me! Everyone that tasted this granola, absolutely loved it, seriously LOVED IT! THANK YOU MEGAN for this absolutely perfect granola!

Stir together the salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon, and vanilla in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, let boil a minute or two, it will thicken slightly and coat the oats better ,then pour over the dry ingredients, and stir to coat. Spread the mixture out evenly on the baking sheets.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until crispy and toasted, about 20 minutes. Stir once halfway through. Cool, then stir in the raisins and dried apricots before storing in an airtight container.

Renee this granola is so good that when I made it for a neighbor whose daughter was going through kemo, she wanted to make it and sell it. Everybody goes completely bonkers over this! And yes the zest is a wonderful addition, very aromatic and flavorful.

FAQs

Why is my homemade granola not crunchy? ›

I aim to let it hit room temperature, whatever that may be; the real point is to give it ample time to shed excess heat and steam. This should take about 45 minutes; if left out indefinitely, the granola can turn sticky or soft, so do try to put it away as soon after cooling as you can.

What ingredient makes granola clump together? ›

Clumpy Granola Method: Add Whole Wheat and Almond Flour

First, it adds a combo of whole wheat flour and almond flour (or almond meal), which act as a binder to hold the oat mixture together.

Do you eat granola with milk or yogurt? ›

Milk: one of the simplest ways to enjoy granola is served up in a bowl with your favorite milk just like a breakfast cereal. Serve it with either dairy milk or dairy-free milk like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk. Yogurt: make yourself a yogurt bowls with some fruit and granola for crunch.

How do I crisp up my granola? ›

Not only can you transform that soggy, chewy granola back to being blissfully crunchy, but it's easier than you might think. All it takes is spreading the granola in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and heating it in a 400 degree oven for five minutes — essentially re-baking it.

Does homemade granola get crunchy as it cools? ›

Your homemade granola will continue to crisp up as it cools. It's tempting to start eating it as soon as it comes out of the oven, but if you let it rest for 15 minutes on the sheet pan, it'll be extra crisp and toasty – totally worth the wait!

What is the best binder for granola? ›

Nut butter is a super flavorful fat that serves multiple purposes in granola. It acts as a binding agent—along with additional coconut oil and whatever natural sweetener I've chosen—helping to pull the dry ingredients together into a wet, sticky mass for baking.

Why is my homemade granola dry? ›

That may seem like a lot of oil, but you need that amount of wetness for the granola to cook properly—otherwise it may end up too dry. First, combine your dry ingredients. Then, add your wet ingredients. Before you add your wet ingredients, make sure you've fully incorporated all your dry ingredients.

What helps granola stick together? ›

Add an egg white.

The whites act as a kind of glue that binds the ingredients together. To ensure that the egg whites coat all the ingredients, I beat them with a whisk until foamy and increased in volume, which makes it much easier to fold into the granola.

Should I stir granola while baking? ›

First, press the granola into an even layer before you put it in the oven. Then, stir it only once halfway through cooking. For really good clumps, press down on the finished granola before it cools and avoid jostling it on the pan until cooled completely. Know when the granola is done.

How do you keep granola from falling apart? ›

While there are several different sticky ingredients that you can use, we've found that the binding agent that works the best is honey! When added to your homemade granola bars, honey acts as glue that sticks all the pieces together.

Why is homemade granola better? ›

Advantage homemade. Both granolas have whole oats as their main ingredient, but the Kellogg's is high in refined sugar and contains palm oil. The homemade version contains protein-rich pecans and uses only a small amount of honey, brown sugar, and vegetable oil. It took me an hour to make granola from scratch.

Is it okay to eat granola every day? ›

The Bottom Line

Granola is healthy in small amounts, especially because oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit in granola provide some fiber that's good for heart and gut health. However, granola can also be a rich source of calories, saturated fat and sugar, depending on the brand you buy.

Is granola anti-inflammatory? ›

Many types of granola contain healthy ingredients that may offer numerous benefits, including reduced inflammation and improved blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and gut health.

What is the healthiest way to eat granola? ›

Smoothie with Granola

Try adding it to your favorite smoothie to give it an extra boost of fiber from the whole grains, healthy fats and added flavor. It's also an easy way to increase calories in a smoothie. Personally, I think it would be a delicious addition to my Strawberry Peanut Butter Smoothie!

Why is my granola still soft? ›

If they are soggy after storage, they may have been stored while still warm. To fix this, spread the granola on a baking sheet and heat it in a 400-degree oven for about 5 minutes. This quick high temp bake is only for reheating and should only be done for a few minutes to prevent burning.

How do you fix bland granola? ›

I tried, and the granola gets bland. If you prefer sweeter granola, you can increase the olive oil and maple syrup to 1/2 cup each. I stir the granola—I don't want big lumps of granola, so I stir every 15 minutes or so while it's baking.
