The Madeleine is a smaller property and now there are several other properties that Hyatt has in Paris. If it wasn't for my wife I would try one of those. She just loves the PHV we are back in December for Paris at Christmas !

I must admit, I love the people watching at PHV! We saw James Pattinson and his ex and several pushy tennis stars on our last visit. And it was fun watching the Chanel trucks deliver goodies!
I like the breakfast there....Diamonds get the buffet AND choices from the a la carte menu. Staff at breakfast were great.
Didn't love the check in staff. They were snooty on the verge of being rude.
Doormen were fun with lots of tips of where to go for meals etc.
I don't love the area where the hotel is.
Other visits, we have stayed where there are cute little shops surrounding us. I just felt I could be ANYWHERE at this hotel.
I want to feel like I am in Paris

Maybe i'm missing out on using some services available to me?
Thanks
I agree , it is just another good hotel --IF the room rates were much less , I think people would not rave about it.The French are great at marketing ,they know how to overcharge and give you the feeling of luxury --I take my hat off to them they do a great job -- Evian water is just" over priced water!! Park Vendome is just a very good over priced hotel --I have stayed at much better

Seriously? The Place Vendôme a half block away had you thinking you might be in Kansas City?

I've seen parking lots that look better than Place Vendome. Attractive is definitely not a conceivable adjective.
If the only thing I saw was Place Vendome, then of course I would not think I was in Kansas City, more like Pyongyang: heavy traffic, concrete dust, construction, etc. Tempered by the open landfill atmosphere surrounding the Westin at the other end of Place Vendome.
The location of PHV was convenient. Location atmosphere was zilch.

On a busy street, torn up sidewalks, a bunch of overpriced jewellery stores, convenient, but completely devoid of any "atmosphere".

OsakaWino, sam007, SPLP007, frogss29, please keep up your end of the debate! To which I would add: "Nothing to see here. Move along..."
EDIT: Referring to the hotel, not the debaters or their points. Which I wholeheartedly encourage.
As that FlyerTalker's signature says: "Don't move to Denver. It's cold here. Very cold."

My apologies to Haussmann if he designed Place Vendome, but I cannot see much of his vision there now. Even when the current various construction is completed, it will still be resemblant of a roundabout more than anything else. There is not even pedestrian access to the obelisk without having to take one's life in one's hands.
As far as location, Madeleine would be much more atmospheric in my opinion, at least there is the church, the (dwindling) flower market, Fauchon, etc.
But we became rather addicted to the comped room service breakfast for Diamonds at PHV, so we are planning to go back. It is convenient to Opera and a nice walking distance to the Seine. Just don't tell me that it is atmospheric.
So I stand by my opinion that, if the PHV were located in downtown Detroit, there would be very few who would make the trip just to stay at this hotel.
